Official Proclamation
In June of 2006, in conjunction with its hosting of the World Urban Forum, the City of Vancouver issued a formal Proclamation naming Vancouver as Canada's first major Learning City. The Proclamation acknowledges the need to create a learning culture whereby all citizens have the opportunity to reach their potential and contribute to the emerging knowledge-based economy and improved social well-being. It encourages Vancouverites to embrace lifelong learning. It commits the City of Vancouver to being a learning organization and to fostering civic policies and practices that model learning.
