Canadian Council on Learning
The Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) is a catalyst for lifelong learning, promoting and supporting evidence-based decisions about learning throughout all stages of life, from early childhood through to the senior years. Recognizing the value of articulating more tangible, measurable "indicators" of a robust learning culture, the Vancouver Learning City initiative is working with the CCL on its Composite Learning Index (CLI) - a measurement tool to assess and compare how Canadian cities, towns, and rural communities are progressing across the full spectrum of lifelong learning. Composite Learning Index
A product of the Canadian Council on Learning (CCL), the Composite Learning Index (CLI) is Canada's annual measure of progress in lifelong learning. It is based on a combination of statistical indicators that reflect the many ways Canadians learn - whether in school, in the home, at work, or within the community.
Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education
Founded in 2005 as a secular and non-political charitable organization, the Dalai Lama Center is a Vancouver-based organization that educates the heart and fosters compassion through creative learning, facilitating and applying research, and connecting people and ideas.
Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP)

HELP is committed to HELPing children and families thrive and has been involved in the Vancouver Learning City Initiative since it began. HELP, established in 2001, has a central office at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. HELP's provincial university partners are: Simon Fraser University, Thompson Rivers University, University of British Columbia Okanagan, University of Northern British Columbia, and University of Victoria. HELP is also working with over 200 community, government and corporate partners across Canada to foster healthy child development, lifelong learning, and more.
Langara College
Serving more than 19,000 students annually, Langara College builds individual and community capacity by offering a continuum of learning opportunities, including programs that range from citations and certificates, to diplomas and degrees. University, career or continuing studies, all programs are delivered with a focus on relevant outcomes for the learner.
Literacy BC
An original partner in the creation of the Vancouver Learning City Initiative, Literacy BC is a membership-based organization that has been promoting and supporting literacy and lifelong learning in BC since 1990. Literacy More than Words
BC is committed to being the best-educated, most literate jurisdiction on the continent. Following the April 2008 Pan-Canadian Literacy Forum -- a real-time, five-time-zone, - nine-city event organized by the Council of Ministers of Education -- the Province launched the first-ever electronic, Pan-Canadian Literacy Forum. The site connects some 3,000 learners, literacy experts, and representatives from education, grassroots community groups, Aboriginal groups, and industry. At latest count, it had 861 members from 103 countries and Territories; 205 forum topics; 28 interest groups; 34 videos; and 35 blogs.

World renowned for its provocative programs and vibrant, contemporary exhibiitons, the MOA inspires understanding of and respect for world arts and cultures.
Raise a Reader

Raise-a-Reader, a year-round initiative that raises funds for family literacy programs across Canada, has raised $15-million since its national launch in 2002. The program has also helped educate Canadians about literacy issues and how improved literacy levels have a positive impact on our country's economy and social wellbeing. The program was initiated by The Vancouver Sun and originally ran as an isolated fundraiser in British Columbia. Today, the campaign is TRULY national - with representation by newspapers in all ten (10) provinces and the celebration of Raise-a-Reader Day in cities from Ucluelet, BC to St. John's, NL.
Science World
A leader in science and technology education, Science World delivers fun and exciting science education programs across the province to promote a science-friendly culture in BC.
SFU Vancouver
SFU Vancouver currently serves over 70,000 people annually, including approximately 10,000 students enrolled in credit and non-credit courses. In addition to leading edge research programs, a wide and varying range of undergraduate courses are offered each semester. Professional graduate degrees are available in business, gerontology, international studies, liberal studies, public policy, publishing, and urban studies. A unique program in liberal and business studies offers a degree completion opportunity for those already in the workforce. Thousands of other individuals, groups, and companies attend SFU conferences, lectures, performances and exhibitions or are involved in courses, seminars and meetings organized externally but held at SFU Vancouver.
Sprott-Shaw Community College
Founded in 1903, Sprott-Shaw trains over 4500 students a year in programs featuring small class sizes, qualified instructors, hands-on training and a friendly, appropriate learning environment for adults of all ages. Its solid reputation with both the private sector and government is based not only on training excellence, but also on Sprott-Shaw graduates’ enviable record of securing successful jobs after completing their training. It is an accredited member of the Private Career Training Institutions Associaiton (PCTIA) of BC.

Serving nearly 25,000 students a year, VCC offers 140 of part-time and full-time programs, including 40 certificate and diploma programs. The college helps students take their career to the next level and/or acquire the skills they need in the field of their choice
Vancouver Economic Development Commission

VEDC works to strengthen the economy of the city of Vancouver by helping existing businesses, attracting new businesses, researching business issues and making policy recommendations. It works closely with elected officials, the consular corps, and relevant departments of all levels of government; links directory with peer organizations in the region, broad-based and sector-specific industry associations and ethnic business groups; and engages regularly with post-secondary and technology institutions, legal, real estate, and business services professionals and others whose work affects economic development of the region – all to bring the best possible information to companies and entrepreneurs interested in business development in the city.
Vancouver Parks & Recreation
The City of Vancouver operates the Bloedel Conservatory, Queen Elizabeth and Stanley Parks, a network of community centres, and a multitude of recreational facilities and programming, inclduing swimming pools, skating renks, fitness centres, golf courses and tennis courts.

Word on the Street
